Jayendra Institutions was founded on the vision and compassion of Mrs. Dhanalakshmi Jayachandran, supported by her husband, Mr. Jayachandran, and guided initially by the leadership of her father-in-law, the renowned industrialist D. Balasundaram. The institution’s story is one of personal conviction, family legacy, and a commitment to holistic education.
The Founder’s Vision
Mrs. Dhanalakshmi Jayachandran, inspired by her philosophical studies and early education at one of the region’s oldest European institutions, dreamed of creating a school that would blend academic excellence with deep-rooted values and compassion. Her experiences—particularly an incident where she intervened to save and support a differently-abled child—cemented her belief that education is the true light that dispels ignorance.
Family Support and Leadership
Her husband, Mr. Jayachandran, played a pivotal role in transforming this vision into reality. As a progressive industrialist and a proponent of indigenous development, he provided both strategic direction and unwavering support, ensuring that the institution was built on strong ethical and educational foundations.
At the inception of the trust, Mr. Jayachandran’s father, D. Balasundaram, a legendary figure in Coimbatore’s industrial history, served as the first chairman. Widely respected for his contributions to the city’s emergence as an industrial hub and his dedication to national progress, D. Balasundaram’s guidance lent credibility and stability to the fledgling institution.
Spiritual affirmation
The inspiration to found the school was affirmed during a Chandramoulishwara Puja at Satara, where an army officer and his wife sought the Kanchi Paramacharya’s blessings for their own educational venture. Witnessing this, Mrs. Dhanalakshmi Jayachandran felt a profound spiritual calling and sought the seer’s permission to establish her own school. With the Paramacharya’s blessings, the institution was named after his disciple, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, whose life exemplifies oneness and universal brotherhood. This divine affirmation gave the family confidence to proceed, and the school’s mission was rooted in Indian values and unity.
Growth and Enduring Legacy
Since its establishment in 1980, Jayendra Institutions has grown into a respected center of learning, offering modern education while nurturing timeless values. The school’s ethos is shaped by the founder’s compassion, the progressive vision of Mr. Jayachandran, and the pioneering spirit of D. Balasundaram, whose legacy as the first chairman continues to inspire the institution’s commitment to service and excellence.
Today, Jayendra Institutions stands as a testament to the power of vision, family unity, and service—lighting the path for future generations. View more
